Quilt Number Nine!

Quilt number nine is a throw quilt I made for absolutely no reason, so it means it's a quilt for me!! Until my blanket loving 5 year old steals it from me and it appears on her bed!

I made this using a Jelly Roll from Gingiber by Moda  called Savannah. I love the colors of it!

You can almost see, but the backing is a light yellow color. It took me a little longer to finish because I forgot to put my walking foot on my machine, and broke my machine. So I am currently borrowing my sisters sewing machine until I figure out a new one!

Quilt Number Eight

Quilt number eight I started three years ago before we moved into our current house. I knew which colors I wanted to put in my then 2 year old's room. Pinks and mint!

I gave it to her for Christmas this past year. And because she loves blankets, she was very excited about it. I quilted it at a local quilting shop, using their long arm. I love the heart quilting pattern!

I absolutely love the colors on this quilt. And I think it's safe to say this is my absolute favorite quilt!

Fireplace Built In Remodel

We recently had our fireplace redone! We have been in our house almost three years and I have been dreaming of these built-ins for my fireplace since day one!

I can't even believe my before picture any more!! This has been finished for about a month now, and I simply can't believe the change! My before! Can you believe it???

To the right of our old sad fireplace, was all of our internet boxes. After we tried to move them to a different room, I decided that instead of buying a cabinet to hide them in, I would just put in the extra money to have built-ins made. And since I was having built-ins built, I decided it was the perfect time to beef up the actual fireplace as well!!

When we were picking out everything for our new house, the fireplace options were seriously lacking. I hated the tile from day one. It wasn't what I wanted. I also did not like how the mantle was so small. There was dry wall on the sides of the fireplace. It just seemed small.

My husband and I are not blessed with the talent to build something like this, but luckily my mom has a cousin who does AMAZING work!! The only problem with hiring him is he is SO BUSY!!!! (I joked and told him to put me on his schedule for 2020 for something, I don't know what, but I want him to do something!!!) He has built custom mudroom shelving for us as well! And the other nice thing is he lets me paint the cabinets before he installs them. It saves me a bit of money by doing that myself and then I feel like I helped!

A couple in progress shots! It took him 3 days to install it with putting in the new tile, and letting everything dry before grouting! But it was SO worth it!!

Figuring out what to have him build was the fun part! I spent hours on Pinterest looking at different ideas. I ended up using this pin as inspiration. We have a very similar layout, so this pin was a great inspiration. Another big debate was what to put in for tile. I originally got a quote for porcelain tile to look like marble and then marble. After thinking about it for about an hour, I decided in this fireplace I was changing everything I didn't like about the current one So it was an easy decision to put in Marble, and I am SOOO glad I did. It made a HUGE difference and looks amazing!!!

I am SO happy with how these turned out!!! I seriously can't believe this is my house!!!

Decorating the shelves was also so much fun! I also had him add in an extra electrical outlet on each side of the fireplace so I could put a lamp on the top shelf. Our room is so dark at night that this has made a huge difference!

A few more pictures, just because!

Quilt Number 7!

Quilt number SEVEN, was a Christmas gift for my new baby niece. It was finished about a day before Christmas, so I wrapped it and never took a picture of it! For this quilt I used two Jelly Rolls, but only about half from each pack. I had a really hard time finding only a pink and grey Jelly Roll, so I had to remove the blue!

I used 6.5 inch strips for this quilt and ended up making 80 - 6.5 by 6.5 inch squares. For my back I used super soft matching flannel!! It was so cozy, I wanted to take a nap with it!

Originally quilt number 7 was going to be a quilt for me. But that quilt was set aside to finish this one first. I might have finally finished that quilt a few months too late.

April Fools Day Food Tricks

April Fools Day is a couple weeks away! And April Fools Day is a special day in my house, because its also my son's birthday!

Last year we hosted his birthday party on April Fools Day, so we had to have a couple treats! Look at all of these yummy treats! Who doesn't love Cheetos, Tootsie Pops and Easter Candy!

Well this is all actually healthy food!!!

The Tootsie Pops are actually Broccoli - I opened the suckers and kept the wrapper. You need to also buy new sticks.

The Easter Candy is grapes, wrapped in the Easter Candy Wrappers.

The Cheetos are actually carrots. Carefully open the bags from the bottom, and add in a few baby carrots. I used a hot glue gun to VERY CAREFULLY glue them shut again.

My kids are already dreading the treats for this years April Fools Day because they are expecting the tricks!!

Happy April Fools Day!!!!

Happy Essential Oil Blend

Who doesn't need a little happy boost ever so often! I love the combo on these oils, AND this could also be an amazing perfume. It smells so yummy!

My happy blend contains:
5 drops Lavender
5 drops Joy
5 drops Orange
5 drops Stress Away
5 drops Valor

Add it all to a 10mL roller bottle and top with your carrier oil of choice! It also helps if you use these insanely cute glass roller bottles from Root + Petal Roller Balls! I may be slightly obsessed with these roller bottles! So cute!

DIY Bath Bomb Kit Gift

I have a 12 year old niece that lately I've had a hard time buying gifts for her!! For her birthday she pretty much only received bath bombs from Lush. So for Christmas, being the DIY lover that I am I started looking for a DIY kit I could give her, where she could make her own bath bombs. But the only thing I could find was a very cheap looking toy kit with horrible reviews. So I decided I would DIY my own DIY Bath Bomb Kit!!!

First I had my very talented sister create a printable of the recipe I use for my bath bombs. To see my recipe for bath bombs and directions on making them, visit here. In my kit, I included enough ingredients to make bath bombs twice. So I included double the ingredients of what is listed on the recipe card.  Then I purchased another set of the bath bomb molds I like.

In my DIY Bath Bomb kit I included 4 samples of oils for her.  I picked Lemon, Lavender, Grapefruit and Ylang Ylang. On the recipe card I suggested combinations of oils.  I used 1/4 dram glass bottles to give her just enough of essential oil. In each dram I put about 10-12 drops. I used my Brother p-touch label maker to make the labels for these tiny bottles.

The almond oil I put in a 1oz amber glass bottle with a dropper. And the rubbing alcohol I put in a 2oz amber glass bottle with a spray top. The dry ingredients I put in small kraft colored bags. Then I added a paper label to everything.

Lastly, I put it all in a cute box with the printed directions and added a cute ribbon to the top. Just like that I have a great gift for a 12 year old Bath Bomb Lover!

My DIY Bath Bomb DIY Kit turned out a thousand times nicer than the kit I was looking at purchasing for her. I am glad I spent the time to put this together for her!
