Organized Hall Closet

One of the last things you tackle when moving into a new house is the closets! People usually don't randomly look into them, so why bother. Well I finally tackled my upstairs hall closet. My before.....

This is a fairly nice sized hall closet, well at least compared to the last two hall closets we have had! I showed the hall closet from our last house here. While it was much longer, it was SO shallow. You could barely put a bin in it because of it being shallow and with the supports.

Look at all of the stuff I took out of there!! This is a massive pile of stuff we don't need. For some reason I had 25 pillow cases and about 10 unneeded and crappy bath towels! I also moved all of the kids towels into their bathroom in an empty cabinet.

And the after!!!! AHHH so much prettier and so much more organized!!! AND I have so much more space for additional organized bins and what nots!!
It's amazing how much prettier a space looks when its not over crowded and with pretty bins!!!

DIY Baby Headband Holder

With all of the headbands I made for Baby Girl, I had to also make something that we could display them on!! There are a lot of different ideas on Pinterest, but I decided to modify and make my own version.

I took a beautiful framed picture I bought at Goodwill MONTHS ago and painted it pink. I then lined it will some cute brown chevron fabric and used some pink drawer pulls I bought at Target.

I then used my favorite Command Adhesive strips and attached it to the inside of her closet door! It works for now, but it maybe should have been a little bigger! Since little girls love their hair accessories!

Child's Closet Organizer

I think it's 100% accurate to say I am in the nesting phase of my pregnancy! I have been cleaning and organizing like crazy!!! And driving my husband nuts at the same time for all of the organization I have him help me with! (I cleaned our refrigerator on New Years Day, that's normal right???)

One of my many recent organizational projects was Little Man's new Big Boy closet. If you remember I turned my craft room into Little Man's Big Boy room.

This is what his closet used to look like:

While it worked well for a craft room I didn't love it for a child's room. Our bedrooms aren't the largest so I also didn't want to take up valuable playing space for a dresser, so I wanted drawers in his closet. I also wanted a lot of shelf space! And I got it all!!!

I am SO in love with his new closet! I love that we can reconfigure it when he gets a little older and his clothes get longer. He can reach the two bottom hanging racks which is fun for him to pick out his shirts! The bottom two drawers are good for him, but the top two are a bit tall for him.

The best part is that a lot of the bins are still empty!! I love these bins from Land of Nod!

I also created some storage boxes myself. These are old wipe boxes from Costo that I pained in gray chalkboard paint and sewed liners out of curtains. They were a lot of work but I am very happy with how these bins turned out!

In case anyone is interested the organizer itself is Martha Stewart's from Home Depot.

Organized Garage

Well my garage is a organized as it can be for now.... its not 100% done but it is a HUGE improvement!! I participated in the Great Garage Clean Out.

I was not able to do as much as I should have because the first 14 days were dedicated to my sister's wedding and recovering from it :)

I had a small garage sale at my house last weekend and am having a big one at my parents house this weekend so I was able to remove all of my many bins of garage sale items!!! What does not sell will be off to charity!!

I started by hanging a few things up!!! Including my awesome stroller that I LOVE!!!!  I still have a few thins on this side I need to give back or find a more permanent home for! I also hung up my cordless drill!!! (YEAH!!!)

Look at that organized corner!! Remember what it looked like before..... a MESS!!!! I still have some projects in the back corner I need to finish that will free up more space... including those ugly chairs... I have no idea if I will actually finish them or if I will just sell them as is.... we will see. I have decided they will be gone before winter so my husband can park in the garage!!!! I have also (for now) leaned my tables against the wall in the corner. I still have the willow branches in the garage from my sister's wedding....

I never got around to organizing this peg board..... on the to-do list for the future!!!

The biggest improvement... look at all of those bins and organization!!!!!

All in all it is an improvement!! But it still needs a bit more work!!! (I also still need to go through my paint shelf and my "garden" shelves)
Thanks Great Garage Clean Out!!!!! I appreciate the motivation!!!

Garage Progress

I made progress in the garage over the weekend!!! Last week I posted about the junk multiplying and this week I took care of my first priority with this garage (well maybe second after being able to park 2 cars in the garage) I organized the first set of shelves!!!

I hit up Target and bought cheap storage containers (6) of them and organized as much as I could in them! And check out my nice new organized garage shelves!!!
The gray tote (which is hard to see in this picture) holds my garden tools and doubles as a garbage can while out doing yard work. I also got 2 of these in red from Target in their garden section, the red two hold Little Man's outside toys (well bubbles and a few small toys) The gray bin on the floor holds balls!

Look at all of those bins with labels!!!! Yeah organization!!!
I am happy to have made this much progress. I still have a few days left so hopefully I can accomplish a few more items on my garage too do list!!!

The junk is multiplying

The junk is multiplying...

I was very excited about the Great Garage Clean Out but my sister got married on May 12th meaning my garage got put WAY WAY WAY on the back burner.... and in that process the junk sort of multiplied.... and check it out I have lots of curly willow branches now in my garage from my sister's wedding!!! (I am actually very excited about these!!!!)

There are still 10 more days left in the month and I will find the motivation and the TIME to complete this project!!!

At this point in time I don't think I will be able to get to my goal of getting 2 cars into the garage (there is just WAY too much garage sale items in there!!!) BUT I am making it my goal to organize the things that will be in there after my garage sale!!!

Any motivation advice for me?? Think I can do it?

I CAN do a lot in 10 days!!

Kitchen Junk Drawer Organization

My brownie boxes to washi tape inbox mail sorter started with my procrastinating about my wedding duties and the fact that organizing when you have more important things to do is so much fun!

I love my house and I love my kitchen. But the one problem my kitchen has is the lack of drawer storage, so that means no junk drawer! I don't have a picture, but often my counter would be over flowing with junk that had no place to go. I had a small basket on my counter full of junk and the bottom shelf of a cabinet. I did a bit of rearranging and was able to free up another shelf in my cabinet.

I found these great plastic containers from the Target dollar aisle that were black and blue. Once I spray painted them with a nice coat of chalkboard spray paint I had pretty organization.
Six of these little containers fit perfect on my shelf, but I needed to create a second shelf to hold up the top layer. Since they are not that heavy I used a piece of foam board.
I added chalk vinyl to two drawers I also found at Target for more organized storage.
I am so happy with how organized my "junk" space now is! Combine this with my DIY inbox, this upgrade only cost me $26 plus the cost of spray paint which I already had :)

Brownie Box to Washi Tape Mail Sorter

In my procrastination for my wedding duties, I decided I needed to organize my kitchen (there will be more on this later!!!) I decided I needed an inbox for bills and things that needed attention. Yes I could have gone to Target and bought one, BUT this was SUPER easy to make and really took me less than 30 minutes!

I started with 2 brownie boxes and NO plan, just a vision!

I started by cutting the top 1/3 of my box off and then cutting down the front of both sides of the box.

I then drew a diagonal line on the side of the box from the top to the bottom (see the picture on the right) to allow for the angled shape I wanted.

Fold on the line and cut off the extra little flap (Don't cut off the extra from your fold line, this is how you attach the two sides!)

Repeat this for the other side of the box.

Then, repeat the above few steps for the other box! I used the first box as a template for the second (see the image below on the left) Then to assemble, a little hot glue on the flap side, press and hold.

Glue both sides, and assemble the second box. SO easy! Then hot glue the two boxes together.

A finished, yet ugly In Box!
To decorate I used my Target Washi tape. As long as you don't look at the back.... I just applied layers of the tape until I had the design I wanted! (I changed my color from this picture to my final pictures!!)

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out two fun shapes with Chalkboard vinyl! A couple Command Adhesive strips on the back and I have a new organized in-box!

It feels so much better to be organized!

Great Garage Clean-Out Challenge

Back in February, I participated in the 29 Day Organizational Challenge (put on by Org Junkie) and organized my Craft Room. It really kept me honest in organizing my craft room and I ended up with a craft room I am very proud of! So when Laura at Org Junkie just announced she is hosting the Great Garage Clean Out Challenge I knew I would be participating!

So here are the before pictures of my garage. It doesn't look sooooooooo bad in the pictures, but I did try and clean it up a bit last weekend....

Right now we can only park one car in the garage and my husband would like to be able to park his in as well!!!

The nice pile of "stuff" that is making it impossible to park two cars in the garage. Notice there are 2 tan colored chairs that I bought last summer to re-upholster for our living room - since we have no furniture in the room.... This also has a couple wooden chairs, a couple side tables, shoe rack and other random things...
H
We had a nice peg board on our wall, but it's not used as it should. We also for some reason have 2 huge garbage bins which take up so much room. So I need to figure out how to give one back to the city?

We have a ton of storage space on the back wall of the garage as you can see. But the entire right side is pretty much just thrown up there - at leas the bottom shelves. This area really needs to be organized!
We have a Christmas tree... which sat in this spot all winter (AKA we didn't use it for Christmas! On the right we have our over flowing recycle bin and our second garbage bin as well as lots of stuff!

Do you see the small table with the big red W on it?  Well... that table top used to be our beer pong table.... :) from our much younger days.... or before we had kids.... Recently we had little man's second birthday party and I wanted a table for all of the kids to sit at... so the beer pong table got legs, and now we have a kids table... funny how things change!!!! We were smart and the legs just screw off... but that doesn't mean it can't sit in the middle of the garage....
Look at all of those paint cans on the bottom shelf. And the lawn and garden supplies on the second to bottom shelf (99% from the last owners...) We also have ceiling storage that currently holds a toddler bed and a toddler sled!

Seriously so much paint!!!! And so many lawn supplies! All of those bins on the top 2 shelves are my garage sale bins full of things I want to sell at a garage sale this summer!!! (Remember we just moved into our house, so lots of things to purge!!!!)

Seriously these selves are so messy!!! And they really need to be organized.

I am so excited for this challenge because I need to organize my garage!!!  And this is just the motivation I need to do it!!! If you don't believe me check out my craft room transformation!

Side note: I very recently "fixed" our broken garage door. Basically it has not worked since we moved into our house in July (yes we both parked outside for most of the winter, luckily it was a mild winter!!!!) I did try to fix it before and had other people look at it, talked to a garage door repair guy, but I finally figure out the problem last week myself!!! There was a tiny little antenna next that needed to be pointing straight up. Once I moved the antenna it worked fine!!! So that allowed me to park my car in the garage!!!
