Gray, Yellow and White Craft Room Reveal

In February of 2012 I revealed my finally organized craft room.  In May of 2012 we found out we were pregnant with our daughter so we could not longer have a separate guest room and craft room. I only enjoyed a nice and organized craft room for a few months before I combined our craft room and guest room together to make a new big boy room for my son! It was quickly decided that we really did not need a guest room (In the 4 years we lived there we had one guest!!!) So the guest bed was moved into my son's room and again I had my own space for a craft room.

So I give you my second craft room - the former guest room! I love this room! It is such a fun and relaxing place to create!

It's a craft room so I wanted as much storage space and I could get! And I really wanted a separate sewing table. I was sick of trying to clear off a little space on my desk to find room to use my machine.
Two work spaces in a craft room is key!!! And I have so much storage! And even more in my closet! The entire thing is very neatly organized with small totes of different crafting supplies!
I also wanted to have an area for the kids to craft. Since kids are sometimes messy, I added a little rug under their table, just in case!!!
I had my dad make me some ledge shelves, but we used a wider board so they were extra deep which I loved!
I love being able to keep my machine out at all times. It makes getting quick projects done so much easier!! And I kept all of my supplies within reach! The small shelves on the desk also hold a lot of my sewing supplies!
My desk ALWAYS looks like this!!!! And of course I ALWAYS have fresh flowers!!!
This is probably my favorite part of my craft room. All of my STORAGE!!!! I spray painted these shelves in my garage (NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!!!!!! I turned EVERYTHING in my garage yellow!!! And I mean EVERYTHING!!!!) I am not going to lie, these were tricky to paint and took a lot of cans of spray paint, but they were worth it. I love how I have easy access to a lot of my craft supplies. And they are all labeled!
I am so in love with this room!!!

Again, a special thanks to First Moments Photography for taking all of these fabulous pictures!! She took all of these fabulous pictures plus our listing pictures!!

Master Bedroom Dresser Re-Do

A while back I AGAIN re-did a dresser for our master bedroom. Remember this dresser I painted. With all of the shuffling we did around making a Big Boy Room for Little Man, we had to move things out of the Guest Bedroom and I wanted to add a dresser to out bedroom, so it worked out perfectly!

This dresser was so easy to paint the first time. BUT this time I knew it would hold some of my husband's clothes, so I did not want it to smell at all.  I spent a lot of time removing the musty smell from it buy by doing that I somehow warped the drawers so they wouldn't fit back into the dresser. That was problem number one I had to fix!

Then I accidentally broke a drawer so I had to glue it back together. Things just took a lot longer than they needed too! BUT I am so happy with the finished results and I love how it looks in our bedroom!

My Current TO-DO list

To try and keep myself honest and ACTUALLY get things DONE, I thought I would post my TO-DO LIST to be completed by April 1. And cross them off as I do them!!! Why April 1, well we have a big birthday in April so I figure that's a nice time frame. It also gives me time before my sister's wedding in May and then doesn't put the pressure on to have a million projects to do over the summer!

1. Finish Little Man's room - DONE - just need to blog it someday
This was done before, but I made some changes, so its no longer "done" I don't have too much left in this project. Just some new art work and things for the wall. Super EASY! I should be able to cross this off of my list in a week.... right??

2. Re-Do Wall of Guest Bedroom - DONE - sort of.... its a fix for now....  again need to blog it
I love my guest bedroom, but I don't love this wall of the room. It just doesn't quite cut it. So I have plans to re-do it. Not 100% sure yet what it will look like, but it will include the Red Envelope "You make me happy when skies are Grey" artwork.

3. Organize Craft Room - DONE
OMG this room is a disaster!! Trust me it's a mess and is in desperate need of organization! Some days it looks better than others... but most of the time its a stressful place to work on projects. I have started a gallery wall in this room, which I love, but need a few additions.
Update: This room is done!!! Check it out!

4. Add Some Style to the Master Bedroom - Working on it
I love our end tables, headboard, the lamps, the sconces above the bed... BUT this room just needs MORE. Besides what you can see in this picture, there is one photo on the wall, which is directly opposite of the bed. To the left is a big blank wall, to the right is a nice big wall of windows with white curtains. I love the start of this room, but it just needs MORE! Like another gallery wall, and maybe a stenciled wall behind the bed. We will see! Check out my Master Bedroom Pinterest Board...

5. The Living Room - Still a hot mess!!
We have lived in this house for six months and I still have not gotten around to this room. And of course it's the first room you see as you enter the house! When we moved in I put those black shelves up but I don't like them. The empty room has been a 4th playroom for my son... and worked out well for our Christmas tree... and currently holds Little Man's train table... but it's time for this room to at least have a place to sit! A while back I bought 2 chairs on Craig's List that need to be refinished, so I have to tackle that project! A while back I started pulling staples... I didn't get very far because it was hard work! ... and I have upholstered easy chairs before like these and this... but never a big chair... Then of course I want to paint and curtains, artwork... oh the possibilities.... check out my Pinterest living room board...

6. Paint Guest Bathroom Vanity - NOTHING.....
Just because I have the paint and I want too... and I think it would look fabulous with the Dr. Seuss decor of the bathroom!

7. Paint the Main Floor Bathroom - NOTHING
It's a pale green, and its fine, but I don't like fine in my house! I am thinking white and turquoise!

8. Finish Little Man's Photobooks - ONE DOWN.....
When Little Man was born I had the brilliant... crazy... something... idea that I should make one photobook PER month for him... Little man was born in April and I think I did the first month pretty quickly... and then things slowed down. As of 2 weeks ago I had only finished the first 6 months (which is PRETTY good considering my insane idea) then 2 weeks ago I completed 2 more books. So I am ONLY a year behind and need to complete January of 2011 until April 2011. THEN I need to figure out how I am going to do year 1... Obviously I should NOT keep doing this insane idea of one photobook per month for the rest of his life... too insane, plus any additional kids we have. I am debating either one for the entire year or maybe 2 for the year... we will deal with that when it happens... hopefully before his second birthday!!

9. Lose like 40 pounds - NOPE DIDN'T DO
I ordered my bridesmaid dress 2 sizes too small so I need to make sure it fits!! Even though my son is almost 2 years old, I still have not lost the baby weight... but that's a whole other story... so it's time to lose it and get on with my life!!!

So there we have 9 super easy projects that I can easily get done in 2 months... right?? Time to get off the computer and get doing... something...

Update: So as of April 1, I had 3 things done. I picked April 1 because I knew we were going to be on vacation for a week and it was Little Man's birthday.... and my sister's wedding... so yeah not all that great.... oh well, on to the next goal list...

There is no thing as a "finished" room...

There is no thing as a "finished" room in my house (and pretty much every other DIYer)!

A few months ago I said Little Man's nursery was done and finished! Conveniently right before our house warming party... well then I had to go and buy a new glider (we had one in our Michigan house, but I didn't LOVE it and when packing decided to sell it on Craigs List... then when Little Man was sick with croup I REALLY wished we had one again... ANYWAYS.... I bought a new glider) SO I had to re-arrange his room to make it fit... which meant this weekend I had to move shelves, cover holes, re-think artwork.... etc... so we are on to version 2 of Little Man's room at this house...

Shelves down... and a big hole where I painted around the shelf... OPPs!

Then I had to start re-working the guest room... a room no one has slept in during the 6 months we have lived in this house ... even though its one of my favorite rooms...

I am working on some new artwork for the new rooms and then I will show the new versions!

Gray and Yellow Guest Room Reveal

My guest room is finally ready for visitors! After my previous post about my guest room fails, I am much happier with how this room turned out! A lot of this room is DIY or something I put my own spin on.

I upholstered the headboard myself with a very soft velourish fabric. I also sewed my first pillow - the gray and white pillow on the bed! I have had several tutorials on using my mom's sewing machine in the past and this was the first time I plan to continue to use the skills.
I painted pretty much everything in this corner, except for the frame. The white chair was given to me by my grandmother in 1984. I call it my first DIY project because in college I painted it black and added puff paint gold glittery stars to the back of it! I love that I am now able to include this in my house!
My Good Will find that I painted with Paris Grey Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Love, love, love how this turned out, and how easy it really is to refinish furniture with this paint!

This is my previous hot glue gunned lamp shade I considered a fail. I simply moved it, so you can't see the inside as well! I love how that turned out.

I bought this end table new at Target in an espresso color and painted it with Paris Grey Chalk paint to match the rest of the room. I looked all over for an older piece but could not find anything and was under a time crunch. So I went with this and am happy with how it completes the room. On the night stand is my copy of Chronicles of Avonlea
signed by Lucy M. Montgomery that my grandma gave me and a piece of pottery I created.
I love all of the natural light into this room!

In the center is my mirror I made and cube shelves I spray painted white.
Writing this post I am realizing that I have a lot of character and history in this room, which I love! I love the color combo of white, gray and yellow, so this room is a favorite of mine!

Paris Grey Dresser Redo

My second piece I refinished with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint! Its a fabulous dresser for our guest bedroom!
This is painted with Paris Grey. I love the subtle shade of grey!

The beautiful before picture - not sure why it's so blurry, but this was taken with my iPhone at Good Will, while I decided if I wanted to purchase this. I am so glad I did!

I really liked the pulls that came with the original dresser, but in moving it twice after I purchased it and before I refinished it, I lost a pull. So for now I replaced them.

Again I was so happy with the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and how it turned out!

My Guest Room Fails

I have been working on my guest room for a while and I am not loving it!

I like the star burst mirrors but (besides it falling apart) I was not happy with how mine turned out! It needs a lot more. I also really liked the look at the CB2 cube shelves and was so excited when I found them at Target in black. So I bought 4 packs of them and painted them all white. Then I realized how difficult they were to hang. Combined with my DIY canvas art, I am not loving this wall.
Then, I spent a while using the new Martha Stewart stencils to update this IKEA lack shelf (that I spray painted gray). I again, don't love it. It took a lot of time, but I think the yellow paint is too bright even though it color matches the bed spread with the combo of the pattern.
Lastly, I love my glass lamp with the shade I covered in a gray fabric.... but....
I forgot to think about how you will be able to see the edge of it, and did not hot glue the inside nice enough and with a straight line.... so it does not look nice when you look at it!
Oh and I accidentally touched the hot glue when redoing the lamp shade. Now I have a nice welt on my finger that 4 hours later still hurts!
I have plans to redo the star burst mirror and change my art work out. I am looking for a new night stand but have not found what I want yet. I am hoping version 2 of my guest room will turn out closer to how I envision it in my mind!
