My First Quilt

I am so happy that I completed my first ever quilt last week!!! I completely love how it turned out! It's not perfect but its good enough for a first quilt! My sister and I took a "class" from her awesome Aunt-In-Law who has been quilting for years. We followed the beautiful pattern from Quilting is more fun than Housework. It was a great quilt to learn on and as you can see my son loves it!

I can't wait to make my next one.... now just to find the time.

Monogrammed Burp Cloth

One of the baby projects I made in preparation for my daughter's birth in February was to sew some girly burp cloths! Since these were so fun to make (and SO fast!!) I have since given several out as gifts! There are so many blogs with directions on how to sew these, so I won't reinvent the wheel, but these seriously take less than ten minutes to sew! Fast sewing projects are my ABSOLUTE favorite!

These are made with fleece, so they are extra soft! I was even lazier on this project by not measuring any of my fabric, I just eyeballed it and trimmed at the end if needed. None of the pre-folded diapers were really the same size anyway, so you can't tell. (Plus they are cloths meant to wipe up baby spit up.....)

After making a few cloths, I had a lot of scrap fabric left over, so I got fancy and monogrammed a burp cloth for my daughter (and it would work for my niece too!) I simply cut out an A and traced it onto the fleece and cut it out. I then sewed my design on before attaching to the pre-folded diaper. Still very easy! And now no one will try and steal her burp cloth.... except maybe her baby cousin who also is an "A" baby!

Smore Bites

My sister recently had a baby and right before the baby was born she was craving Smores, which she never got since the baby decided to make a slightly early arrival. So me being a nice sister, I wanted to figure out a way I could take her a Smore in the hospital.

These were so easy to make and they are SO SO good!!!

I started out by filling a mini muffin tin 2/3 of the way full with sugar cookie dough. Any kind of sugar cookie would work here, store bought dough or homemade, you decide! I baked those for 7 minutes until they were fully cooked.

While the sugar cookies were baking, I cut large marshmallows in half and un-wrapped Hersey Kisses.

Once the sugar cookies were done, I added the halved marshmallows and put the muffin tin under the broiler for about a minute and a half. Watch them closely until they are to your liking!! Then I gently pushed a Hershey Kiss into the Marshmallow. Gently remove them from the pan and enjoy immediately or they even taste awesome later!

How good would these be with a different cookie on the bottom, or a Peanut Butter Hersey Kiss!! I think I might need to make some more now :)

60 Things We Love About You

This past week we celebrated a very special birthday of a very special birthday girl. My mom (or Nana as she is called by my little man!) turned 60! And in honor of her turning 60 we came up with 60 Things We Love About You. Between my three sisters, our dad and little man, we came up with 60 things we love about her (though we could have easily come up with more!!!)

We decorated our stripes of paper with some Washi tape and put them in a cute glass container decorated with scrabble pieces. Easily creating a heartfelt birthday gift for our fabulous mom! (Who doesn't look a day over 40!!)

Little man was in charge of coming up with some as well. His were pretty funny! I especially like the part about Nana taking him to Costco to buy pop tarts and her house having lots of windows!

Happy Birthday Mom / Nana! We love you!!!

Not So Pink Baby Girl's Nursery

I loved the bedding and colors I used for Little Man's nursery 3 years back and (to much surprise to MANY people) I decided to use the same bedding and color scheme for our little girl. So baby girl's room doesn't look all that different from her big brother's nursery, but I just added in the right amount of pink accents! I LOVE pink, but didn't want an overwhelmingly pink room for our little girl.

So here is our not so pink little girl's room!

I spent a while trying to find the perfect letters for her name because I wanted them to be lower case letters and I wanted them to be HUGE! So I ended up ordering them from Craft Cuts and painted them a light pink.

Since I bought this bedding set in 2010, it came with a bumper. I only used the bumpers for the pictures and not while she sleeps in the crib.

I modified this plaque from a Restoration Hardware wall hanging by making an A with fabric and adhering it to the wood.
Our comfy Pottery Barn Kids rocker, that we spend a lot of time in! I think a comfy chair in a nursery is a must!! I whipped together a pink pillow for her chair!

I created some bird artwork for her room using my silhouette.

I modified the mobile I made by painting it pink and replacing the blue ribbon with pink ribbon.

Here is a close up of the animals hanging on the mobile. This is still one of my favorite parts of this room.
I love her nursery and how calming it is. We like spending time in it, and she loves sleeping in her crib! Here is how little man's nursery look! It's really not all that different, but I do think it has the perfect amount of pink!

Gray and Purple Owl Diaper Cake

Last weekend I hosted a baby shower for my sister. I am so excited as she is expecting a little girl in about a month, so our little girls will be about 5 months apart! And hopefully very soon they will be best friends!

My sister is putting together a purple and gray nursery for her little girl, so we used that as a starting point for the baby shower.

And NO baby shower is complete without a diaper cake. My mom and I put together this cute purple and gray owl diaper cake. It was REALLY easy, especially since we have a huge supply of diapers in my house right now!

Three years back, when my sister's made me a diaper cake for my son's baby shower, they tediously wrapped each diaper with a rubber band..... well as a mom of two, I don't have that sort of time!!! We folded each diaper in half loosely following these directions on how to make a diaper cake. It maybe took us 30 minutes to assemble the general structure of the cake, it was SO fast and SO much easier!!!

I easily decorated the cake with purple and gray ribbon and a cute little owl I made! I decorated the top of the cake with fabric flowers headbands that her little girl can wear!!!! These directions are all over Pinterest, but here are the headbands I made for my little girl.

My little girl

Wow I have not blogged a lot this year! But I have been pretty busy and not had a lot of chances to be crafty or creative! My very good reason is in February I had my second child, a sweet little girl name Ava! She is such a great little baby and her big brother loves her dearly. He is already so protective of her and she loves watching her big brother!!!

I am finally getting used to being a mommy of two, and have some free time during the day, that I can find time to be creative!!! So I thought I would introduce my little girl to the blog and I will hopefully start blogging again!!!

Master Bedroom Dresser Re-Do

A while back I AGAIN re-did a dresser for our master bedroom. Remember this dresser I painted. With all of the shuffling we did around making a Big Boy Room for Little Man, we had to move things out of the Guest Bedroom and I wanted to add a dresser to out bedroom, so it worked out perfectly!

This dresser was so easy to paint the first time. BUT this time I knew it would hold some of my husband's clothes, so I did not want it to smell at all.  I spent a lot of time removing the musty smell from it buy by doing that I somehow warped the drawers so they wouldn't fit back into the dresser. That was problem number one I had to fix!

Then I accidentally broke a drawer so I had to glue it back together. Things just took a lot longer than they needed too! BUT I am so happy with the finished results and I love how it looks in our bedroom!

Train Artwork

I have slowly showed bits and pieces of Little Man's new Big Boy room. Well today I have some simple artwork I made for his book shelves. I downloaded the shape from the Silhouette website.

Little Man loves to say "All a board" so it was an easy addition to add to the sign!

This was so easy to make!! Check out the other stencils I have made with my Silhouette Cameo for tutorials on how I made this!

DIY Baby Headband Holder

With all of the headbands I made for Baby Girl, I had to also make something that we could display them on!! There are a lot of different ideas on Pinterest, but I decided to modify and make my own version.

I took a beautiful framed picture I bought at Goodwill MONTHS ago and painted it pink. I then lined it will some cute brown chevron fabric and used some pink drawer pulls I bought at Target.

I then used my favorite Command Adhesive strips and attached it to the inside of her closet door! It works for now, but it maybe should have been a little bigger! Since little girls love their hair accessories!

Baby Girl Headbands

In a few (hopefully short days we are expecting a sweet little baby girl. So I just had to make some cute little headbands for her to wear! Since our son was basically balk until he was two, I figure our little girl will probably have similar hair and instead of telling people she is a girl, I figured the headbands will MAYBE give people a clue to not ask!!

These were so easy to make!!! And they are all interchangeable! The flowers are attached to the elastic bands with Velcro! There are a lot of different tutorials for these around Pinterest, but this is one version I used. The only difference is I sewed the circles onto the felt, and used Velcro instead of pins!

I can't wait to see these headbands on our new little girl!!!

Child's Closet Organizer

I think it's 100% accurate to say I am in the nesting phase of my pregnancy! I have been cleaning and organizing like crazy!!! And driving my husband nuts at the same time for all of the organization I have him help me with! (I cleaned our refrigerator on New Years Day, that's normal right???)

One of my many recent organizational projects was Little Man's new Big Boy closet. If you remember I turned my craft room into Little Man's Big Boy room.

This is what his closet used to look like:

While it worked well for a craft room I didn't love it for a child's room. Our bedrooms aren't the largest so I also didn't want to take up valuable playing space for a dresser, so I wanted drawers in his closet. I also wanted a lot of shelf space! And I got it all!!!

I am SO in love with his new closet! I love that we can reconfigure it when he gets a little older and his clothes get longer. He can reach the two bottom hanging racks which is fun for him to pick out his shirts! The bottom two drawers are good for him, but the top two are a bit tall for him.

The best part is that a lot of the bins are still empty!! I love these bins from Land of Nod!

I also created some storage boxes myself. These are old wipe boxes from Costo that I pained in gray chalkboard paint and sewed liners out of curtains. They were a lot of work but I am very happy with how these bins turned out!

In case anyone is interested the organizer itself is Martha Stewart's from Home Depot.

Poufs times 3

After sewing my first pouf last year and realizing how easy they REALLY are to make, I made 3 more! In the process of making a Big Boy Room for my son, I decided he needed a reading corner, since he loves to read books.

And what a better way to create a reading corner than throw in a bunch of poufs!!!

For the basic directions, I followed my tutorial for my first pouf.

I did however, make a few changes. I didn't use cording on these and I filled them differently.

Supplies
Fabric
3 Foam Sheets
1 Package of loose batting
Sewing machines and supplies

Directions: see original post.

To stuff the poufs I used a foam sheet in each one on the bottom to give it the square shape. The two smaller poufs are 14 x 14 x 4inches and the larger is 18 x 18 x 6inches. I then filled the rest in with batting.

I am so happy with how these turned out! I love the fabric patterns and how comfy they are.

They look great in Little Man's Big Boy room!!! And they REALLY are super easy to make!!! If you can sew a straight line you can sew these!
